Root Canal Therapy

ROOT CANAL THERAPY IN Palatine, IL

A root canal procedure can repair a tooth that has badly broken down because of dental decay. It eliminates all sources of infection and decay and also prevents any kind of discomfort associated with the decay.

The nerve present inside the tooth is known as the “pulp” and is actually a collection of blood vessels and nerve endings inside the tooth. When the nerve inside the tooth gets affected by trauma or decay, the nerve gets inflamed resulting in intense pain. Ultimately, the nerve will die which then causes an infection.

Symptoms you may experience when requiring a root canal:

  • Lingering pain, more than 10 seconds, after having anything hot or cold food or beverages
  • Persistent pain and pressure
  • Constant pain and also pain that wakes you up at night
  • Swelling on the gum, “gum bump”
  • Sensitivity to touch or biting
  • Pain that feels just like a throbbing heartbeat
There are several conditions that have no symptoms at the very first stage but gradually an abscess will develop (pimple-like bump on your gums) and an emergency root canal will need to be performed. If the infection is serious, we may require placing a drain around the gums to let the infection drain out. X-rays help us to identify the infection.

Treatment process:

Our dentist will numb the tooth with the help of a local anesthetic. Then we access the pulp by making a small hole in the crown of the tooth, which enables us to clean out the infected tissue using a series of drills and files. This procedure generally can be performed in just a single visit, but at times may require multiple visits as well if we require placing antibiotics inside the tooth to get rid of serious infection.

When the tooth is infection-free, the tooth and canals are sealed up in order to help prevent future infections. Based on the condition of your tooth, a final restoration will then be fixed. In maximum cases, the final restoration will be a dental crown for maximum protection.

Hands down the best dental practice around! I genuinely like ALL of the dentists here and so does my family! As unpleasant as it can sometimes be to go to the dentist, Dr. Britten and all of her staff listened and have gone above and beyond to put me at ease. I recently had EXTENSIVE cosmetic work done and Dr. Britten truly has gifted hands and knowledge of her craft. It is an artwork that takes time and I am so glad I chose to have my teeth properly fixed finally by a dentist who knows what they’re doing. I only can hope that they never leave the area now!

Always a good experience. The staff are all very friendly, and Dr. Loo is great. We always chat about gaming and he’s a genuinely helpful guy. My apologies to the person doing my cleaning this morning who thought I was in a rush, I had to go to the bathroom super bad 🤦‍♂️ I would definitely recommend Palatine Dental to those looking for a new Dentist
