Tooth Colored Fillings in Palatine, IL
Why should I remove my metal fillings?
Metal fillings function as a wedge inside your mouth. When you bite down, the wedge drives deeper and deeper into your tooth, leading to cracks and fractures. Amalgam is used to make metal fillings. Temperature variations and biting, which are common inside your oral cavity, cause the amalgam to expand and contract. As a result, amalgam-coated teeth are frequently weakened. If left untreated, this could result in more expensive procedures such as root canal procedures, dental crowns, or even tooth extraction because of the fracture.
Mercury, a highly toxic substance, is also present in amalgam. It is not clear from the existing literature about the amount of mercury emitted by amalgams and its long-term consequences on our body.
